Call for translaters

For the next pga conference, before and during...

(please send this text, to people and collectives you know that could have interest and skills in translation)

The next European conference of People's Global Action, an anticapitalist and anti-authoritarian global network, will take place between the 19th of August and 3rd of September in France. See http://pgaconference.org/ for all details about content and participation.

We're presently writing as we urgently look for people interested in helping with translation work, both to translate texts before the conference, and debates and workshops during the conference.

We regularly send texts about the organization of the conference and about the various issues that will be debated. We also have a general presentation leaflet that has only been translated in four languages yet.

We want to question the usual supremacy of English in such international meetings and the way it prevents many people from participating to the discussions or to the event itself. Many of us can't really have a discussion in english and we think that debates can sometimes go deeper and be far more interesting if people have the possibility to speak their own language, and be properly translated by people (which ideally means that translators are a bit involved and in touch with the issue talked about).

Contrary to institutional events, we don't have any subsidies, not much money and don't want to employ professional translators. So we hope for the involvement of people who feel close to pga hallmarks and are interested in the issues debated upon.

So it's great if you have a bit of time to help with the translation of short or long texts from time to time till august. If you know people who have translation skills or speak/write fluently in two languages, please forward them this call. Contacts of already existing translation activist collectives and networks would be really useful too.

You can contact us at stamp@poivron.org or directly subscribe to stamp-il8n@pgaconference.org, list on which texts to be translated are sent.

Translation during the conference itself :
- If you're willing to participate to the conference itself, you can tell us.
- If you would be ok to take part to the translation work and in which languages (see registration form on pgaconference.org).
